The woman who grabbed Annie in the library turns out to be Janus, who takes delight in seeing Annie brought down to size. Being a fairy herself, she knows that Annie is under the effect of a shrinking spell. She explains to Annie, "Well, I guess it's up to me to make sure you don't disappear altogether!"
Annie doesn't complain, however, as she is brought into Janus's house.
Unbeknownst to them, however, Nibbil has been observing Annie and followed them to the house. She is six inches tall, hiding behind a lamp, waiting for the right moment to reveal herself. As the fun starts, Annie begins to grow, and Janus begins to shrink, blissfully unaware of her changing size. Annie continues growing until she is about two feet tall, at which point Janus has shrunk to about the same size. At that moment, Nibbil reveals herself, which causes Janus to realize that she has shrunk.
